New and educational coloring activities for kids including free coloring pages and other coloring fun.
There are many wonderful kid's coloring activities that go beyond printing out coloring pages and books. Any of these are perfect for an activity at home or in a class room setting.
Unique Coloring Pages
- There are a variety of free coloring pages online, but a good selection of coloring is offered by simply downloading free black and white clipart images. Clipart images range from very simple line drawings to quite detailed pictures.
- For fun, take the same black and white image, have it appear four times on a page and then have the child color each image with different colors, giving it a pop art/Andy Warhol effect.
- Chapter books usually have illustrations in amongst the chapters that are not in color. If comfortable, let kids color in these pages so they can personalize the book for themselves or take a photocopy of the page and let them color that instead.
- Black and white comic strips are fun for children to color. Comic strips appear in the newspaper every day and can be a quick activity when kids are bored.
- There are paper dolls available that come completely blank, allowing little girls to use their full creativity and design sense adding colors to the clothes. Some free ones are available at billybear4kids.com.
Fun Coloring Activities
- Chalk on the driveway is one of the best coloring activities. Color Halloween images on the driveway for trick-or-treaters, for example. A great school activity is to take kids out to the front of the school, and give each child their own sidewalk slab to draw and color whatever they like. They could also be given a theme, such as the 100th day of school.
- Crayola makes markers that write on windows. They really do wipe off quite easily. This a a perfect coloring activity for children on a summer day to decorate for a birthday party or holiday celebration.
- Print off the months of the year, one per page, and then assemble the pages into a calendar. Kids can then use the blank page above the month to color a drawing pertaining to that month.
- A map outline of the world or the United States is a great coloring activity for kids as it helps them to learn geography at the same time.
- Take paper cutouts of pumpkins, flowers or any seasonal image, and have kids color them any way they wish, then string them together for a garland or banner.
- Gather a bunch of leaves from the yard – again different sizes and shapes. Have kids trace around them to make a collage and then color them in the various autumn colors.
From maps to comic strips to calendars, there are many fun, educational and interesting coloring activities for children.
