From gingerbread men garlands to snowflake window decorations to their own Christmas tree, these are fun decorations for kids' rooms, some they can even make themselves.

A great way to get kids in the holiday spirit is to decorate their rooms with a variety of child-themed Christmas decorations.

Decorating Kids Windows for Christmas

Kids can decorate their bedroom windows in a variety of ways – sticking up paper snowflakes they have cut out or using Christmas themed window clings, like snowmen or snowflakes. They could also take holiday-themed stencils, available at any craft store, place them on the window, spray the cutout area with spray snow and then peel away the stencil to see the snowy image.

Using Garlands and Lights in Kids Rooms

String indoor mini lights (make sure they are for indoor use and LED so they use less energy) or novelty lights around their windows or from one corner to another. Bronners.com has novelty lights such as pinecones and snowmen that would be fun. This is best for older kids who know not to touch the lights or the sockets, and it would probably be best not to leave the lights on all night.

String garlands made of paper snowflakes, snowmen, candy canes or felt gingerbread men across the room. These are garlands kids can make themselves. Just make sure the lights or garlands are strung safely so kids cannot entangle themselves, and that the lights are not touching anything that could be flammable.

A Child's Own Christmas Tree

Give kids their own small tree for their room – just an artificial three-foot tree. This is a great place for them to hang all the Christmas ornaments and crafts that they have made over the years. These trees are usually under $30. Artificial trees now come in a variety of colors such as hot pink, blue, purple, silver and lime green so it is easy to find a color to match their room. To further coordinate, only purchase ornaments in the same color as the tree.

Other Kids' Christmas Décor

There are other Christmas décor objects for a kid’s room such as wooden nutcrackers (MagicCabin.com has a paint a nutcracker kit), kid themed snow globes (Disney has one of the princesses caroling in their winter outfits), advent calendars, Christmas card holders, or music boxes or carousels with a holiday theme. Improvements.com has a Nutcracker Ballet music box that features three scenes from the ballet with curtains that actually open and close, and plays nine songs from the famous ballet.

They could have a nativity scene displayed on their dresser. Playmobil makes one that would be perfect for a child’s room. For a toddler’s room, Fisher Price has a Little People’s Tree Lighting in Discovery Park and a Little People’s Night Before Christmas, both of which could be used for display purposes.

Hang kid-themed ornaments by ribbons from light fixtures, window sills or bookshelves. For a girl’s room, the Snow Wonders Angel Collectio n would look nice hanging around the room. For boy’s rooms, hang the Lego holiday ornaments from Lego.com or the Star Wars ornaments typically available at major card retailers.

There are so many Christmas decorating ideas for a child's room that are inexpensive and whimsical, plus they will have fun making some of their own.
